  1. Constructions Clubs use Lego®-based therapy to support children with autism.
  2. This club primarily targets social interaction and social communication deficits.
  3. It may also improve communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal) and peer relationships and friendships.
  • This club run once a week for 10 weeks.
  • Children attending the construction club will be divided into 2 groups based on their ability and compatibility. One group starts on Tuesday 16th from 3-4pm and the other group starts Thursday 18th from 3-4 pm.
  • Please note that this is not just a building club. Children need a minimum set of skills to join. This club is highly structured and follows set agendas.

These are the prerequisite skills and behaviours needed to participate:

Behavioural and Interpersonal

  • Able to sit and maintain focus on the build
  • Follows rules and behaviour expectations
  • Respects personal space and displays appropriate physical contact boundaries
  • Exhibits non-aggressive peer communication and interactions

Brick Skills

  • Can combine pieces, including non-block pieces like windows
  • Able to sort and identify pieces
  • Able to identify correctly completed builds according to the manual or free build plan
  • Able to follow manual and verbal instructions both from peers and adults

There are 3 children in each group. They take on different roles (parts supplier, builder, engineer) with specific rules and responsibilities:

  • Parts supplier is responsible for sorting bricks, verbally communicating with the member holding the manual (engineer), identifying the necessary brick or piece, and then supplying the requested brick to the Builder.
  • Builder is responsible for building and assembling sets and freestyle builds in all group sizes and formations. In a group of three, the Builder does not hold the instruction manual or locate the bricks they need.
  • Engineers oversee the operations of the group. Only Engineers hold the instruction manual in a group. The Engineer is responsible for communicating the contents of the instruction manual with both the Builder and the Supplier.
